CPL Principles of Flight | AIPA (January)
For hundreds of years, (even Da-Vinci gave it a go), we had tried to unlock the secret to flight. Finally, in the very early 1900s ( Richard Pearse or Orville Wright, you decide) powered flight was a mystery no longer!! So was it some magical formula, some new form of technology or just pure luck that opened the doors???
Quite simply it was an understanding of the 4 main forces and how they interact and depend on each other…..Lift, weight, drag and thrust.
Over the duration of this course, we will dive into these forces in greater detail and gain an understanding of how we manage and manipulate them to our benefit, each and every time we fly.
We will look at aircraft control surfaces and design – the tools of our trade – we will investigate things like our use of fuel for range and endurance and also how Newton’s 3 laws are not just things you needed to learn at school!!!
Aircraft and aircraft technology have come a long way since 1902/1903, Pearse/Orville, however, the fundamentals are still exactly the same!
This is an extended version of the full-time ground course designed specifically for the Auckland International Pilot Academy (AIPA). This version of this ground course has more learning time spent on each subject in the classroom and also allows students to have an extra Study Day at the Club together with an Instructor to prepare for the exam.
